Hello! I’m Matt Pavitt, a Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor (WMCI), full-time instructor, and the new custodian of West Coast Mountain Guides (WCMG). With a passion for adventure and a commitment to excellence, I am honored to lead WCMG and continue its proud tradition of guiding and mountaineering.
Over the years, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to climb and guide all over the UK, from the sunny crags of Portland to the challenging and esoteric ice lines in the North West. Each climb has been a unique adventure, and I bring this wealth of experience to every guiding session.
As a North Face athlete, I strive to push the boundaries of what is possible in mountaineering. One of my proudest achievements is holding the record for the Fastest Known Time (FKT) on the Cuillin Ridge in Winter. This accomplishment not only reflects my dedication to the sport but also my love for the rugged and beautiful landscapes of the UK.
Taking the helm of WCMG is a great privilege. I am committed to maintaining the high standards and visionary direction established by my predecessors. Together with the talented team at WCMG, we will continue to offer unparalleled guiding experiences, fostering a deep respect for the mountains and a passion for climbing.
For me, the perfect day is springtime ice climbing – when the weather is crisp, the ice is perfect, and the mountains are calling. I look forward to sharing these magical moments with you and helping you achieve your mountaineering goals.
Let’s Climb Together!
Join me and the West Coast Mountain Guides for unforgettable climbing adventures. Whether you’re a seasoned alpinist or new to the mountains, I am here to guide you every step of the way.
In Memory of Dave Fowler – Profile
We remember Dave Fowler, the former custodian of West Coast Mountain Guides, for his deep passion for adventure and his dedication to high-quality instruction and guiding on the West Coast of Scotland and beyond.
Dave was fortunate to grow up in Llanberis, where his climbing journey began. He first climbed with his dad and brother, and later with school friends, guiding them on many classic rock climbs in North Wales. This early love for climbing and adventure eventually brought Dave to Scotland. Since 2005, he worked tirelessly in the outdoors, and from 2012, he became a familiar and trusted guide on Skye, expertly navigating the Munros and scrambles. His passion for climbing also took him to some of the world’s best destinations, including two successful ascents of El Capitan via different routes. Despite his global adventures, Dave always believed that the West Highlands had some of the finest mountains and islands in the world.
Dave’s enthusiasm for climbing and adventure was infectious, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who had the pleasure of spending time with him in the mountains. Whether guiding on classic Ben Nevis ice routes or exploring hidden snow gullies in Glencoe, Dave’s spirit and dedication shone through.
Dave Fowler’s legacy lives on in the countless memories and adventures he shared with his customers and friends. His love for the mountains and his ethos of adventure will continue to inspire all who knew him.
