Private Mountain Guiding and Instruction

Hire your private mountain guide.
Our high levels of qualifications and experience, coupled with excellent local knowledge and friendly approach will ensure safe and rewarding adventures.

Engaging the services of your private mountain guide, at anytime of the year, is available as a popular alternative to attending a set mountaineering course with other people. Together we will design a bespoke itinerary that will meet your requirements and help you to achieve your ambitions, whether you are an individual or part of a group.  The duration and location can be tailored to your requirements.

One of the main advantages of private mountain guiding is that is is delivered entirely around your aspirations. A flexible approach enables the pace of the course and level of challenge to be easily adjusted to match your ability and experience. This ensures that skills are developed progressively and at a suitable pace.

All of the mountain guides, instructors and leaders that we employ for all of our courses are all very active mountaineers and climbers. All have climbed and walked extensively throughout the UK and many have been on adventurous expeditions around the world. With such a wealth of experience, we will make sure that we find the right professional for you.

West Coast Mountain Guides enjoy the challenge of accommodating even the wildest requests; allow us to help provide you a safe and enjoyable time in the mountains.

Private mountain guiding and instruction ratios will depend on the type of activity requested. Prices will reflect the location, duration and number of people who want to participate. Please see below for our pricing structure. If you would like some help with your request or wish to discuss ideas and options with an experienced instructor, please get in touch.

  • 5 star rating Sgurr Dearg and In Pinn My boyfriend had been wanting to do the inaccessible pinnacle so I booked a guide via West coast Mountain guides, I had a lot of questions as I'm not used to climbing such technical munros and we also wanted to take our dog. The owner Ken was really helpful and accommodating, he always replied very quickly to my emails, nothing seemed a bother. Our guide Tom on the day was... read more

5 star rating Skye 4-day , 11 Munros on Cuillen ridge I am just back from the 4 day Skye Munro tops on Cuillen ridge.
West Coast Mountain Guides were absolutely superb.
Everything was 1st class, from the communication pre-trip , through the 4 climbing days and all the logistics that involved, to a Whatsup group for the whole party, so we can swap photos.
The guides were exceptional with their knowledge , patience and making sure we were all completely secure and safe.

5 star rating Safe, secure and happy Dave took myself and a pal called Jim up the Cuillin Ridge a couple of weeks ago. I was utterly terrified of heights and as a result managed to lose the ability to climb/scramble/walk without guidance/a confidence rope. Rather than making me feel silly, Dave was incredibly patient, funny and interesting (as is Jim) which meant despite the fear, the trip was fun, filled with interesting geological information, and most... read more

5 star rating Inaccessible Pinnacle Dave from West Coast Mountain guides was brilliant. There were two of us guests in his group and he was friendly, knowledgeable, chatty and a complete pro throughout. Told us loads about the beautiful surroundings and kept us chatting on the long slog up to the Pinnacle from Glen Brittle. On the Pinnacle itself he led the way and belayed us up - felt safe as houses. On the way... read more

5 star rating Superb day of trad climbing coaching at polldubh Superb day of coaching provided by Malcolm to help us move up climbing grades to Vs level. He was very knowledgeable, generous with his time and advice and we had a thoroughly great day at polldubh crags improving both our safety skills and technical skills. It feels very worthwhile to have invested in personal knowledge and skills.
Highlights were giving us the confidence to fall on our own trad...

  • 5 star rating Skye Cullin Munros Course A fantastic 4 days climbing all the Skye Cullin Munros. Tom & Mike we’re outstanding guides, made us feel safe & relaxed & had lots of great knowledge to share with us. They also made a great decision to switch our days to make best use of the weather, without this we’d not have been able to climb all 11 Munros. Some of the routes we took would have been... read more

5 star rating Aonach Eagach ridge - a phenomenal day Aonach Eagach rigde traverse with Dave and Mike as guides. Amazing day - both guides superb, and made the day safe, enjoyable but still challenging and pushed out of our comfort zones. Great chat throughout also. Couldn't recommend highly enough.

5 star rating Aonach Eagach Traverse Brilliant day! As this was my first traverse/scramble of the exposed type I was a little apprehensive but both Mike and Dave were brilliant and helped me feel relaxed and confident throughout. Would definitely recommend West Coast Mountain guides and I will certainly use them again in the future!
