Private Mountain Guiding and Instruction

Hire your private mountain guide.
Our high levels of qualifications and experience, coupled with excellent local knowledge and friendly approach will ensure safe and rewarding adventures.

Engaging the services of your private mountain guide, at anytime of the year, is available as a popular alternative to attending a set mountaineering course with other people. Together we will design a bespoke itinerary that will meet your requirements and help you to achieve your ambitions, whether you are an individual or part of a group.  The duration and location can be tailored to your requirements.

One of the main advantages of private mountain guiding is that is is delivered entirely around your aspirations. A flexible approach enables the pace of the course and level of challenge to be easily adjusted to match your ability and experience. This ensures that skills are developed progressively and at a suitable pace.

All of the mountain guides, instructors and leaders that we employ for all of our courses are all very active mountaineers and climbers. All have climbed and walked extensively throughout the UK and many have been on adventurous expeditions around the world. With such a wealth of experience, we will make sure that we find the right professional for you.

West Coast Mountain Guides enjoy the challenge of accommodating even the wildest requests; allow us to help provide you a safe and enjoyable time in the mountains.

Private mountain guiding and instruction ratios will depend on the type of activity requested. Prices will reflect the location, duration and number of people who want to participate. Please see below for our pricing structure. If you would like some help with your request or wish to discuss ideas and options with an experienced instructor, please get in touch.

  • 5 star rating The Accessible Pinnacle We travelled to Sgorr Dearg as a party of eight which required two guides. Ken Applegate, and Dave (apologies Dave I never did get your 2nd name) were the two assigned to the task. They were informative and reassuring during the first half of the climb and scramble to the summit of the pinnacle. They kept the atmosphere lighthearted whilst making us aware that we were ultimately responsible for our... read more

5 star rating Skye Munros Course - what an experience! Just back from Skye having spent 4 days with Mark from West Coast Mountain Guides on the Skye Munros Course. Despite some appalling conditions we managed to summit all 11 munros on the ridge. It was tough both physically and mentally but always felt safe with Mark. Pre-course communication with Ken was excellent. I couldn't recommend highly enough and now that I have dried off I am already thinking about... read more

5 star rating Amazing adventures in Torridon and the Cuillins with West Coast Mountain Guides This summer holiday, we had two great days out with Mike. The first day was in Torridon, climbing the Liathatch. With Mikes guidance and the occasional use of ropes for safety, we were able to climb the pinnacles face on, making the most of the spectacular ridge and taking on steep scrambles which we would not have liked to do on our own. This helped build our confidence for other... read more

5 star rating Fantastic course, great guiding, great company. I booked the Skye Munros course to help move me closer to achieving my ambition of climbing all the Munros. In the build up to the course Ken was quick to provide reassurance and guidance when I had any questions or required advice.
