Private Mountain Guiding and Instruction

Hire your private mountain guide.
Our high levels of qualifications and experience, coupled with excellent local knowledge and friendly approach will ensure safe and rewarding adventures.

Engaging the services of your private mountain guide, at anytime of the year, is available as a popular alternative to attending a set mountaineering course with other people. Together we will design a bespoke itinerary that will meet your requirements and help you to achieve your ambitions, whether you are an individual or part of a group.  The duration and location can be tailored to your requirements.

One of the main advantages of private mountain guiding is that is is delivered entirely around your aspirations. A flexible approach enables the pace of the course and level of challenge to be easily adjusted to match your ability and experience. This ensures that skills are developed progressively and at a suitable pace.

All of the mountain guides, instructors and leaders that we employ for all of our courses are all very active mountaineers and climbers. All have climbed and walked extensively throughout the UK and many have been on adventurous expeditions around the world. With such a wealth of experience, we will make sure that we find the right professional for you.

West Coast Mountain Guides enjoy the challenge of accommodating even the wildest requests; allow us to help provide you a safe and enjoyable time in the mountains.

Private mountain guiding and instruction ratios will depend on the type of activity requested. Prices will reflect the location, duration and number of people who want to participate. Please see below for our pricing structure. If you would like some help with your request or wish to discuss ideas and options with an experienced instructor, please get in touch.

  • 5 star rating Aonach Eagach, great day out. Easy booking and great communication from Ken. The day itself was weather wise perfect. Our guide Will was excellent and built confidence in all 3 of us. Will guided us very safely throughout the day and at no time did we have any worries. During the day Will gave us some great info on Flora, Fauna, Glencoe Geology and some great walking and scrambling tips for other routes around Glencoe.
    Highly recommended.

5 star rating Beyond expectation My son and I had two days on Skye. We comnpleted the In Pin day one, and rather than Am Basteir day 2 as I needed a recovery day, did An Diallaid - scrambled up the ridge and then down Coir an Eich. We were up and down in some 5 hours and had time to bathe the feet in one of the fairy pools. The weather was better then... read more

  • 5 star rating Incredible day! We had an amazing day on the Aonach Eagach. The weather was perfect but what made the day so stunning was our wonderful guide Sam. What a pleasure to spend the day with him. I can’t thank him enough for his careful guiding of the three of us along the ridge. He was so skilled at knowing when to support, when to leave my daughter... read more

5 star rating Intro to trad/ outdoors climbing/ scrambling. My brother and I couldn’t be happier with the service we received.
We wanted a trip to take the skills we’d picked up from several years of indoor climbing to the outdoors in order to boost our confidence and knowledge in trad/ outdoors climbing.
The trip was tailored exceptionally well to our needs and was balanced brilliantly between learning skills/ knowledge and getting hands on with the mountain.
    The guide we were allocated,...

5 star rating In Pinn I would highly West Coast Mountain Guides, Mehmet guided me and my family of 4 up the Inn Pin on the Isle of Skye. He was highly knowledgable about the area, landscape and history. He was an excellent conversationalist and was highly proficient with mountaineering equipment. Overall, this made for an excellent day with an incredibly safe and interesting guide.

5 star rating Experienced guides with a good sense of humour I've had my eye on the Cuillin traverse for some years, but on contacting West Coast Mountain Guides, Ken recommended getting more scrambling experience first, so I booked the Aonach Eagach ridge instead. I always found Ken helpful, knowledgeable and responsive to my queries in the run-up to the route.
Once the day came, I met up with five other clients and two guides, Dave and Mike, which felt like...
